Dr. Laura Kaufman Mowry, teacher/flutist
Frequently asked questions
Q: Do you have openings in your studio for all levels of flute students? Please contact me to check! I require that every student have a "trial" lesson before being officially admitted into my studio. This is to ensure that the student is serious and also so that the student can make sure I'm a good fit for them as well.
Q: Do you teach adult students? Absolutely! I teach both private lessons and group lessons for adults.
Q: Does every student have to take weekly lessons? For private lessons- Yes. For flute students to see effective progress, weekly lessons are essential for the serious student. If you are interested in performance/competition coaching and not flute lessons, then weekly lessons are not required.
Q: What flute should I buy/rent? Depends on the age/level/seriousness of the student. It is very important to get a professional opinion (outside of a salesperson at a music store) because many beginner flutes are poorly made. Certain brands look nice at the music store but break constantly-- costing far more in repairs! Contact me through the form on my website and I would be happy to share a list of reliable flute brands/stores.
Q: Can you travel to my home for lessons? I teach out of my home studio in Springfield, VA and at George Mason University.
